Impacto Radio History
In 1964, at station HCJB in Quito, Ecuador, Bruce Woodman launched RADIO IMPACTO, a daily, 15 minute Spanish program which he continues to produce. Since its conception the growth has been phenomenally blessed by God. Currently, Radio Impacto is broadcast in 22 countries on 310 stations to a potential audience of 247 million (courtesy, station statistics) in South America, Central America, North America, the Caribbean, Europe, and Africa.
Now, in almost every crusade meeting, an adult tells Bruce…“I’ve listened to you ever since I was a little boy (or little girl)!” The following are just a few of the results of this ministry. Currently, seven Latin American evangelists (from El Salvador, México, Guatemala, Argentina, Venezuela, and the USA) plus team musicians are regular components of Radio Impacto.
Testimonies
(1 An illiterate man from Lima, Peru, exclaims, “I’m learning through my ears as I listen to your daily broadcast”.
(2 Dr. Enrique Villagra Morales, justice of the Supreme Court of Nicaragua gave Bruce Woodman and the crusade team a big Latin Hug as they met, exclaiming, “I’ve listened to you for years on Radio Impacto. How nice to meet you face to face.”
(3 A middle aged couple walked 3 hours through snake infected tropics to attend our crusade meeting in Puerto Jiménez, Costa Rica. They sat in the first row, but did not participate in the crusade singing. Bruce Woodman handed them his song sheet. They still did not sing. Then, it dawned on him – ‘They don’t know how to read!’ However, they listened intently and eagerly received Christ at invitation time. They shared, “We listen to Radio Impacto every day. When we heard the announcements inviting us to this crusade, we knew that nothing could keep us away.”
(4 A 21 year old señorita writes from Barcelona, Spain, “Radio Impacto is positively stupendous!”
(5 In Chilpancingo, Mexico, a church was planted through Radio Impacto. Listening to recorded programs every Sunday morning in a private house, the church grew to a congregation of 200 in two years. Now, it continues to flourish with a Mexican pastor and its own church building.
(6 From Spain, “I am depressed. I don’t know if I should commit suicide. Please repond to tell me if Jesus wants me dead of alive.”
(7 “We traveled 2 hours by canoe and 3 hours by burro to attend your evangelistic crusade. In the mountains where we live, there is no church where the Bible is preached. That’s why your Impacto program is our church”, stated a family from Honduras.
(8 From Buenos Aires, Argentina, (one of the 10 largest cities in the world with a population of 14 million) a listener writes, “In the hustle and bustle of this capital city, how comforting it is to hear a confident voice of peace and hope.”
(9 From Colombia, a young man writes, “I committed fornication regularly with some 30 women! Thanks to your program, God reached down and saved me from my many sins. Since then, I have learned much about God and me as a result of your Bible teaching. Now, I feel clean inside and enjoy a transformed, healthy life style.”
(10 “Radio Impacto has held the top rating among all of our Spanish programming, according to listener polls taken during the last 3 years,” Related Glen Priddy, while serving as station manager of HRGS in Roatán, Honduras.
(11 Another station wrote, “Radio Impacto enjoys such a listening audience that we have been copying it off another station and airing it on ours. Please tell us how we can receive programs directly form you.”
(12 “Each morning at 6:30 AM before I go to work, I gather my children around me to listen to your program. For us, it is our daily bread and teaching to keep us on the right path for the day.” This excerpt is repeated many times in our listener mail.
(13 A young girl from Guatemala writes a long letter filled with stories of incest and brutality from which she can not escape. One of our team members, a seminary professor, is well equipped to respond to situations like this.
(14 Another lady writes, “I have extreme bad character and a terrible temper. I don’t know why, but I’m always screaming at my husband and children. I’m afraid he may leave me. What can I do? Please help me…”
Homosexuality, drunkenness, unfaithfulness, and deep loneliness of the heart fill the pages of many of the letters sent our way, written by people searching for answers. Impact International is there to help by radio and crusades to show them THE WAY.
