Guatemala Revisited

From the airport we travel in a van though hundreds of horse-shoe curves to arrive at Latke Atitlan, surrounded by 5 volcanoes. The 12 villages around the lake are named after the 12 apostles. Our crusade is held in a brand new church -- one of the nicest in Latin America.

Special police escort (protection from frequent assaults) takes us around the 5 volcanoes and more curves as we travel to Comalapa, high in the chilly mountains with a "Long John" climate. Several young people introduce themselves as my personal assistants. "We are here to serve you. Your wish is our command." As we walk each day to the open air meeting in the town plaza, they insist on carrying my horn and sound equipment. They really spoil me with their attentions!!

Because I'm housed in a Sunday School classroom, those kids barge in on me at any hour of the day or night to chat and giggle!

                        The Surprise of My Life
The Sunday morning service is held in the 1,000 seat church. As we launch the program, a lady approaches me on the platform and asks me to accompany her to the entrance pf the church for something special. There, a little boy and girl take each hand and lead me down the long aisle, in front of the procession to the platform. I am seated in a lone chair with the kids on my lap... and it begins... for the next hour everyone pays homage to me in a "this is Your Life" Event -- a Tribute for my Years of Serving the Lord in the Spanish Speaking-World!!!

I am humbled beyond words for their thoughtfulness and God's grace in allowing me to be His servant.

In the chilly mountain air of the town plaza, 287 Guatemalans settle their accounts with God in claiming Christ as their savor. After the final meeting, we board the bus with a police escort to head for the capital city. Two of my "assistants" become so attached that they shed tears at my departure.

Thus ends another chapter of life. My dear friend, you have helped to write it!!! Thank you, in Jesus' name, for your ongoing partnership!
